Pompano Beach warns residents about a cybersecurity incident affecting the CodeRED emergency alert platform
Pompano Beach, Florida – The City of Pompano Beach is alerting residents and visitors to a recent cybersecurity incident involving CodeRED, a third-party emergency alert platform operated by OnSolve. City officials said they were notified that a dataset associated with CodeRED user accounts may have been compromised, potentially exposing personal information.
According to the City, the data at risk could include user contact details such as names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. For some users, passwords tied to CodeRED profiles may also have been affected if they had taken the extra step of creating a profile. While not all CodeRED users maintain passwords, officials strongly advise anyone who used the same password for other personal or business accounts to change them immediately as a precaution.
“There is no indication that the impacted data has been publicly disclosed online,” the City emphasized. However, the proactive warning aims to give residents the opportunity to safeguard their personal information and take measures to prevent any potential misuse.
As a result of the incident, the CodeRED enrollment link on the City’s website has been temporarily disabled. Pompano Beach is in the process of transitioning to a new emergency alerting system, and officials said registration details for the new platform will be shared once it is fully operational. City representatives stressed that the incident did not originate on the City’s network, and no other municipal systems or data were affected.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor their accounts and consider updating passwords for any other platforms where the same credentials may have been used. Cybersecurity experts also recommend enabling multifactor authentication where possible, particularly for accounts that contain sensitive personal information.
CodeRED is widely used by municipalities across the country to send urgent notifications, including weather alerts, evacuation notices, and public safety messages. While the platform is designed to deliver critical alerts quickly, the recent incident highlights the broader risks associated with third-party services that manage personal data. City officials emphasized that public safety systems remain secure and that alerts will continue to be issued through alternative channels until the new platform is live.
The City of Pompano Beach said it remains committed to transparency and public safety, urging anyone with questions or concerns about the incident to reach out through official City communication channels. Residents can also find updates and guidance on account security and the upcoming emergency alert platform on the City’s website.
In a time when digital information is increasingly targeted, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance, prompt action, and proactive measures to protect personal data. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely and reaffirmed that protecting residents’ privacy remains a top priority.
