Oakland Park, Florida – Oakland Park’s monthly food delivery program has reached a new milestone, now providing meals to 201 residents who are elderly, homebound, or otherwise unable to get out for groceries. The initiative has become a reliable lifeline for many in the community, ensuring that neighbors have consistent access to nutritious food each month.

The program grew out of a response to the pandemic. From April 2020 through May 2021, Oakland Park partnered with Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale to host weekly food distributions and deliver meals to homebound residents. These early efforts highlighted the need for consistent support, and the program has since expanded, strengthened by ongoing partnerships and community involvement.

“We’re grateful to our partners HandsOn Broward and Farm Share for helping make this program possible each month,” city officials said. “And to the staff and volunteers who pack and deliver food directly to residents’ doors: thank you. Your time, care, and consistency make a real difference for neighbors who need our support.”

Volunteers remain a critical part of the program’s success. Each month, teams come together to pack boxes with groceries and deliver them to residents’ homes, ensuring that no one misses a meal due to mobility challenges or health limitations. For many participants, the monthly delivery is more than just food—it’s a connection to their community and a reminder that neighbors care.

Upcoming deliveries are scheduled for February 28th and March 28th, 2026. Residents who are interested in volunteering to help pack or deliver meals can sign up through the City of Oakland Park website or call 954-630-4506. Those who are homebound seniors or otherwise in need of meal delivery can enroll through the Broward County Vulnerable Population Registry by calling 954-831-4000.

City leaders note that the program’s continued growth reflects both a dedication to supporting vulnerable residents and the power of partnerships. Organizations like HandsOn Broward and Farm Share provide the resources, while volunteers provide the manpower and care that make the program sustainable. Together, they create a network of support that helps residents live independently and with dignity.

The success of the program underscores the ongoing need for community-based food assistance. Even as pandemic-era restrictions have lifted, many residents still face challenges in accessing fresh and nutritious food. The monthly delivery program ensures that these residents are not overlooked and that they have consistent, reliable support.

For Oakland Park, the program is more than a service—it’s a symbol of community resilience and compassion. By providing meals directly to residents’ doors, the city demonstrates that small, consistent acts of care can have a meaningful impact on the lives of neighbors who need it most.

As the program continues to grow, organizers hope to expand volunteer involvement and increase awareness of the service so even more residents can benefit. For many, the simple act of receiving a monthly box of groceries has become a lifeline and a source of comfort, connecting them to the broader Oakland Park community in meaningful ways.
