BCPS launches expanded Summer BreakSpot program offering free meals to children and teens across Broward County

Broward County, Florida – As schools close for the summer break, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is stepping in with a wide-reaching program aimed at ensuring that children and teenagers continue to have access to healthy food throughout the summer months.

Starting Monday, June 8, 2026, BCPS will provide free meals for all children and teens 18 years old and under through Florida’s Summer BreakSpot program. The effort will run across 96 school sites in Broward County, offering breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and suppers at no cost to families.

The program is designed to fill a gap that often appears when school cafeterias close for the summer. For many families, school meals are a reliable source of daily nutrition during the academic year, and the Summer BreakSpot initiative aims to maintain that support even when classes are not in session.

There is no need for registration, application, or proof of income, making the program widely accessible to all eligible children and teens. Meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and must be consumed on-site at participating locations.

Families can also call 2-1-1 for assistance or text “Food” or “Comida” to 304-304 to locate nearby meal sites.

The Summer BreakSpot program operates statewide and is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In Florida, it is administered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, ensuring coordination between federal and state agencies to support children during the summer months.
