Pembroke Pines, Florida – A summer evening in Pembroke Pines is set to take a playful turn as the city prepares to host a unique outdoor experience that blends cinema and swimming into one community event. Families, friends, and residents of all ages are invited to a Dive-In Movie Night, a poolside watch party featuring the animated adventure “The Spongebob Movie: Search For Squarepants.”

The event will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 7:30 to 10:00 PM at the Academic Village Pool, located at 17191 Sheridan Street. Instead of traditional theater seats, attendees will float or relax poolside while enjoying the film under the night sky, creating a relaxed and unusual viewing atmosphere.

Organizers describe the event as part of the city’s participation in National Parks and Recreation Month, which is observed throughout July. The month-long initiative encourages residents to get outside, stay active, and connect with their local community through public spaces and shared activities.

The city has made admission to the Dive-In Movie Night free, although space is limited and attendance will be managed on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early to secure a spot, especially since events of this kind often draw strong community interest during the summer season.

Light refreshments will be available during the screening, adding a casual snack option for guests enjoying the film. However, city officials have outlined several important rules to ensure safety and comfort in the pool environment. No flotation devices, outside coolers, food, or drinks will be allowed inside the venue, helping maintain a clean and controlled space for all attendees.

The concept of watching a movie while floating in a pool has become increasingly popular in community recreation programming, and Pembroke Pines is using the opportunity to highlight both family entertainment and the importance of public parks and recreation spaces.

By hosting events like this, the city aims to encourage residents to make use of local facilities in creative and engaging ways. Officials say the broader goal of National Parks and Recreation Month is to promote healthier, more connected communities through shared outdoor experiences.

While the movie itself offers a lighthearted storyline familiar to many families, the setting is what makes this event stand out. Watching an animated film about underwater adventures while sitting or floating in a pool adds a playful twist that fits naturally with the summer atmosphere in South Florida.

The city also encourages the public to stay updated on upcoming activities through its digital platforms, including NewsFlash, City Connect, and official social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Additional updates and programming are also available through Pembroke Pines Media on YouTube, as well as on Comcast Channel 78, where local content and announcements are regularly shared.

As summer continues, Pembroke Pines officials hope events like Dive-In Movie Night will bring residents together in simple but memorable ways, turning a local pool into a shared space for entertainment, relaxation, and community connection.
