Oakland Park welcomes students back for a safe and successful school year

Oakland Park, Florida – A new school year is underway in Oakland Park, with local officials encouraging students, families, teachers and school staff to begin the year with safety, confidence and a positive outlook.

The City of Oakland Park is also taking steps to help young residents return to school prepared. As part of that effort, the city recently joined the Broward Sheriff’s Office for the second annual Backpack Giveaway at Wimberly Field.

The event provided 150 backpacks to young athletes participating in Oakland Park’s Youth Flag Football Program. The giveaway gave students an opportunity to receive school supplies while also bringing families and community partners together ahead of the new academic year.

The city’s partnership with the Broward Sheriff’s Office will continue beyond the giveaway. As students return to their classrooms, BSO and Oakland Park Fire Rescue are scheduled to visit all three elementary schools in the city.
