Tallahassee, Florida – A lucky Osceola County resident is celebrating a life-changing win after striking gold with the Florida Lottery’s GOLD RUSH LEGACY Scratch-Off game. David Martinez, 49, of Kissimmee, recently claimed a $1 million prize at the Lottery’s Orlando District Office, turning a $20 ticket into a massive payday.

Martinez opted for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000, securing his winnings in an instant. His winning ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven located at 101 State Road 436 in Fern Park, a convenience store that will also see a reward for its lucky sale. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the million-dollar ticket.

A Winning Streak for Gold Rush Legacy

The $20 GOLD RUSH LEGACY Scratch-Off game was launched in April and has quickly gained popularity among lottery players. The game boasts impressive prizes, including four top prizes of $10 million and 20 prizes of $1 million. With over $894 million in total cash prizes, the odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 2.97, making it one of the more favorable Scratch-Off options available.

Scratch-Off tickets continue to be a major part of the Florida Lottery’s success, accounting for nearly 74 percent of total ticket sales in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Since the Florida Lottery’s inception, Scratch-Off games have awarded over $65.5 billion in prizes, produced more than 2,283 millionaires, and contributed over $19.8 billion to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).

Lottery Success Fuels Education and Economy

Beyond creating millionaires, the Florida Lottery plays a vital role in funding education and supporting local communities. The lottery has contributed over $48 billion to education programs, helping more than one million students attend college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.

Since its establishment in 1988, the Florida Lottery has paid out over $98.6 billion in prizes and has been responsible for creating more than 4,200 millionaires across the state. Additionally, 99 percent of revenue generated by the Lottery is reinvested back into Florida’s economy, supporting prize payouts, retailer commissions, and education initiatives.
