Oakland Park, Florida – Exciting changes are underway at the Collins Community Center as the City of Oakland Park embarks on a major renovation project aimed at modernizing the facility and improving services for residents. As part of these upgrades, the parking area will be closed for two weeks starting on March 10, 2025. The City appreciates the community’s patience during this temporary inconvenience and is committed to ensuring that the work brings lasting benefits to the area.

The Collins Community Center renovation is a significant part of Oakland Park’s broader effort to modernize and revitalize city facilities in preparation for the future. With the help of a generous $2 million grant from FloridaCommerce, the City is transforming the center into a state-of-the-art technology hub. This upgraded space will provide expanded access to digital resources, employment training, and telehealth services, making it a crucial resource for residents seeking to improve their skills and access essential services.

In addition to the technology hub, the renovation project also includes a $500,000 public library construction grant, which will relocate the library to the City Centennial Park. The new location will not only enhance the accessibility of library services but also align with Oakland Park’s redevelopment goals by placing the library in a Qualified Census Tract. This strategic move positions the library at the heart of the community, ensuring that it is within easy reach of residents in the city center.

The renovation will also provide an opportunity to integrate modern technological resources and create a more dynamic and inviting space for residents to enjoy. The new library facility will offer expanded services and resources, including a more accessible digital learning space for community members. It will also host community events, educational programs, and workshops, making it a vital hub for learning and engagement in Oakland Park.

“This project is an important step in Oakland Park’s ongoing efforts to create a more resilient, efficient, and vibrant city,” said a city representative. “We’re not only modernizing our facilities but also providing opportunities for our residents to thrive in a rapidly changing world. The new library and technology hub will be invaluable in supporting lifelong learning and helping our community members adapt to the digital age.”

The renovation of the Collins Community Center reflects a broader commitment to improving the quality of life for Oakland Park residents. Over the past decade, the City has made significant investments in municipal facilities, including upgrades to Fire Station 9, the North Andrews Gardens Community Center, and the new Public Works Complex. These improvements are part of a larger citywide initiative to enhance the infrastructure and amenities that support the City’s growth and long-term sustainability.

Woodson Park and Wag Dog Park, plays a key role in making Oakland Park a more vibrant and connected place for residents and visitors alike.

The City is grateful for the community’s continued support and patience as the renovation project progresses. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, these improvements will help position Oakland Park for a bright and successful future.
