Plantation honors the life of Norma Fink who passed away at age 103 after decades of service as the city’s oldest employee and beloved tennis center attendant

Plantation, Florida – Norma Fink, the personable and long-serving tennis center facility attendant whose dedication and warmth made her a fixture in the Plantation community, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, at the remarkable age of 103. Fink’s passing marks the end of a life defined by service, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to her city and neighbors.

Norma began her career with the City of Plantation in 1978, working at the Plantation Community Center tennis courts. In 1981, she transitioned to the newly opened Frank Veltri Tennis Center at Plantation Central Park, where she continued to bring joy and professionalism to visitors for decades. Even in her later years, Fink remained on the job two days a week, serving as the oldest employee in the city’s history until illness forced her to step back. She lived independently in her home and passed there surrounded by the quiet familiarity of her own space.

Her life was celebrated far beyond the tennis courts. In 2021, U.S. Representative Ted Deutch commemorated Fink’s 100th birthday by reading her story into the Congressional Record: “Born Norma Mager, in the Bronx, New York, on November 16, 1921, Norma has spent a century giving back to those around her. In 1942, Norma graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree in economics and a minor in geology, the only woman to graduate with that honor at the time. Shortly after, she put her degree to work by joining the Department of War to assist with the military supply chain while her husband, Robert Fink, served in our Nation’s Armed Forces during World War II. …Norma’s spirit of persistence, generosity, and service to her community is an inspiration to all of us in south Florida. It is an inspiration to generations of Americans.”

Fink’s legacy extended beyond professional accomplishments. In 2023, she had the honor of serving as grand marshal for the City of Plantation’s July 4 parade, a moment she called “the best day of my life.” Her presence at city events, dedication to the tennis community, and vibrant personality made her a beloved figure for multiple generations of residents.

Known for her warm smile, approachable demeanor, and unwavering commitment, Norma Fink embodied the spirit of service and community engagement. Her career and personal life reflected a remarkable blend of professional excellence, civic involvement, and family devotion.

As per her wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Friends, colleagues, and city residents are remembering Norma Fink as a symbol of dedication, resilience, and the profound impact one individual can have on a community over a century of life.
