Davie, Florida – Local artists now have an exciting opportunity to showcase their creativity as the Town of Davie launches its second open call for the Painted Horses Public Art Project. Applications are being accepted through October 28, 2025, giving artists a chance to design and paint unique fiberglass horse sculptures that will highlight Davie’s rich history and culture.

The project seeks six talented artists from Broward County to participate in this vibrant public art initiative. Selected artists will receive $2,000 for completing their painted horse, which will be displayed throughout Davie in parks and municipal facilities, enhancing the town’s visual landscape while celebrating its equestrian heritage.

“The Painted Horses Public Art Project is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to share their talent while reflecting the history and culture of Davie,” said a spokesperson for the Town of Davie. “Through this initiative, we aim to combine creativity, history, and community pride in a way that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.”

Artists are encouraged to embrace the project’s theme, ‘Historical Cultures of Davie,’ in their designs. Suggested areas of focus include the town’s farming and fruit grove heritage, educational institutions, cowboy and rodeo culture, and the diverse local flora and fauna. Each artist is invited to submit up to three designs using the supplied template, ensuring that submissions remain original and reflect their personal artistic vision.

To maintain consistency and durability, the Town has set guidelines for acceptable materials. Only acrylic paint, artificial resin paint, or two-component paints may be used on the horse sculptures, and all paint must be UV resistant. Designs must be original, with no logos or words allowed, and the artwork must be entirely the creation of the submitting artist.

Applications and designs must be submitted through the Town’s official registration form at www.davie-fl.gov/PaintedHorsesArt. The Public Art Advisory Committee will review all submissions and recommend designs to the Town Council for final approval, selecting one design from each participating artist to bring the project to life.

This initiative is part of Davie’s ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces through art. The Painted Horses Project aims to honor the town’s equestrian roots while adding visually engaging elements to parks and public facilities. By showcasing local talent, the town hopes to foster community pride and encourage interaction with public art in a meaningful way.

Artists and residents alike can expect to see the completed horse sculptures installed across Davie in areas that are easily accessible to the public. These colorful additions are intended to draw attention to Davie’s unique history and cultural heritage, creating opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with the town’s past in an interactive, artistic way.

For artists considering participation, the Town encourages careful planning and imaginative design that captures the essence of Davie’s history while adhering to the project’s guidelines. Those with questions or needing assistance can contact the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department at 954-797-1145 for more information.
