Broward Sheriff’s Office will host Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred a Thon event in Dania Beach this Saturday

Dania Beach, Florida – Residents of Dania Beach will have a chance to safely dispose of old medications and sensitive documents this weekend, as the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) hosts its Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon. The community event is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bass Pro Shops, located at 200 Gulf Stream Way.

The initiative gives residents a safe and convenient way to clear out expired or unused prescription medications that might otherwise pose risks if left at home. As part of the program, individuals who turn in their prescription medications will receive a $5 gift card, available while supplies last. BSO officials note that needles and sharp objects will not be accepted during the collection.

In addition to collecting medications, the event provides an opportunity for residents to protect themselves against identity theft by securely disposing of personal documents. A shredding service will be available on-site, with a limit of two boxes per vehicle. Each box should measure no more than 16 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 12 inches high.

Events like these have become a trusted community resource, combining public safety, environmental responsibility, and crime prevention into one gathering. By removing prescription drugs from circulation, the program reduces the chance of misuse, while shredding services help residents protect private information from falling into the wrong hands.

The event is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to take advantage of the service, whether they have expired medications at home, sensitive paperwork that needs shredding, or both.
