Parkland, Florida – Parkland residents have a chance to declutter their homes and safely dispose of sensitive materials this weekend as the Broward Sheriff’s Office hosts its Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon event. The free community event will take place on Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parkland Equestrian Center, located at 8350 Ranch Road.

The event offers residents the opportunity to shred personal documents, helping to prevent identity theft while also reducing paper clutter at home. Each vehicle is allowed a maximum of two boxes for shredding, with each box measuring no more than 16 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 12 inches high.

In addition to document shredding, residents can safely dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications. As an added incentive, those who turn in prescription medications will receive a $5 gift card while supplies last. It is important to note that needles and other sharp objects will not be accepted at this event.

The BSO emphasizes that these types of events provide a safe, convenient way for community members to manage personal documents and medications responsibly. “Our goal is to protect residents’ personal information and prevent prescription medications from being misused or entering the wrong hands,” officials said.

Community members interested in attending are encouraged to arrive early, as supplies and gift cards are limited. This event is part of a broader initiative by the Broward Sheriff’s Office to promote safety and responsible disposal practices throughout the county.

For more information about the event, residents can call 954-831-8902 or visit the Broward Sheriff’s Office website at www.sheriff.org. The Parkland Shred-A-Thon provides a simple and secure way for residents to take important steps in protecting both their personal information and the community.
