Pompano Beach, Florida – The City of Pompano Beach is reaching out to its residents to help define the future of public art in the community. As part of its new Public Art Master Plan, the city is hosting a series of Community Engagement Meetings on Wednesday, November 5th, offering local residents the opportunity to share ideas, provide feedback, and contribute to a vision that will shape the city’s public spaces for years to come.

The Public Art Master Plan aims to create a comprehensive framework for integrating art into parks, neighborhoods, and public facilities throughout Pompano Beach. By involving residents in the planning process, city officials hope to ensure that the plan reflects the community’s values and celebrates the unique character of the city. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enrich public spaces and create a sense of identity and pride for residents and visitors alike.

Two community engagement sessions are scheduled for November 5th. The first session will take place from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Pompano Beach Senior Activity Center, located at 2005 NW 9th Street. The second session will run from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Emma Lou Olson Civic Center, 1801 NE 6th Street. Both sessions will provide residents with a chance to meet the planning team, learn about the goals of the Public Art Master Plan, and discuss ideas for future projects. Light refreshments will be served to encourage a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere.

In addition to the November 5th sessions, residents will have another opportunity to provide input at Old Town Untapped on November 7th from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., located at 41 NE 1st Street. This event is designed to capture feedback from a broad cross-section of the community, including residents who may not be able to attend the morning or evening sessions.

To guide the creation of the Public Art Master Plan, the City of Pompano Beach has partnered with Designing Local, a nationally recognized firm specializing in arts and culture planning. The team includes urban planners, landscape architects, and public art administrators who bring extensive experience in integrating creative projects into public spaces. During the engagement sessions, the Designing Local team will present an overview of their work and seek input from residents on strategies for incorporating art throughout the city.

Mayor Rex Hardin has emphasized the importance of community involvement in the initiative. “Public art is more than just decoration,” said city officials. “It reflects who we are, tells our story, and strengthens connections between residents and their neighborhoods. By inviting the public to participate in this process, we ensure that Pompano Beach’s future public art truly belongs to the people who live here.”

The Public Art Master Plan is expected to provide a roadmap for projects that enhance public spaces, promote cultural engagement, and foster a vibrant arts scene across Pompano Beach. From murals and sculptures to interactive installations and performance spaces, the plan will guide decisions on where and how public art is incorporated into the city’s parks, streetscapes, and civic centers.

Residents interested in learning more or submitting questions ahead of the meetings can contact Laura Atria at [email protected] for additional information. The city encourages all residents to attend one of the sessions or participate at Old Town Untapped to help shape a vision that reflects the community’s voice, creativity, and cultural identity.

Through this initiative, Pompano Beach is taking an inclusive approach to public art planning, ensuring that future projects are thoughtful, community-driven, and capable of enhancing the quality of life for everyone in the city. By engaging residents now, the city hopes to create a dynamic and lasting arts environment that celebrates Pompano Beach’s distinct character and fosters a stronger sense of place for all.
