Pembroke Pines opens its annual MLK Jr. student poetry contest for creative writers in grades 3 through 12
Pembroke Pines, Florida – The City of Pembroke Pines is once again inviting young writers to share their voices, their creativity, and their reflections on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As part of its long-standing tradition of celebrating the civil rights leader, the city has opened submissions for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Student Poetry Contest, welcoming original work from students in grades 3 through 12 who either live in Pembroke Pines or attend school there.
This contest aims to bring forward the thoughts and perspectives of local youth through poetry, spoken word, or short creative writing pieces. By encouraging students to explore themes connected to Dr. King’s life, message, and influence, the event hopes to deepen understanding of his impact while giving young people a platform to express how his ideals resonate today. Each year, the contest serves as both an artistic showcase and a reminder of the community’s commitment to honoring Dr. King’s vision of equality and justice.
Students preparing to submit their entries should follow a few important guidelines. All writing must be original and must contain at least 15 words but no more than 300 words. Pieces can be emailed directly to [email protected]. The submission window opens Monday, November 10, 2025, and will remain open until Monday, January 5, 2026. Organizers encourage students to submit early to avoid last-minute technical issues and to ensure every piece is reviewed.
