Arthur Bridge repairs move forward as City of Hollywood targets pedestrian reopening later this fall
Hollywood, Florida – Residents who regularly use the Arthur Bridge pedestrian crossing near Rotary Park will need to wait a little longer before returning to the popular pathway, but city officials say progress is being made toward restoring access.
The City of Hollywood has provided a new update regarding the pedestrian bridge located at Arthur Street and North 31st Avenue, outlining the steps currently underway to address structural concerns that prompted its temporary closure.
The bridge was shut down as a precaution after issues were identified with its railing system. City officials acted to restrict public access while engineers conducted a detailed review to determine the condition of the structure and identify any repairs necessary to ensure long-term safety.
That evaluation has now been completed, offering a clearer picture of the bridge’s condition. According to the city’s findings, the bridge deck itself remains largely intact, with only minor deterioration observed. Engineers determined that the wear found on the deck is non-structural in nature and does not represent a major concern.

However, the assessment also revealed that more significant work is needed elsewhere. Repairs to both the bridge’s foundation and railing system must be completed before pedestrians can safely return to the crossing.
With the inspection phase finished, the project is now moving into the design stage. A structural engineering firm is currently preparing detailed repair plans that will guide the restoration effort. Once those plans are finalized, city officials will begin the process of selecting a contractor to perform the required work.
The timeline for reopening depends on several factors, including the completion of design documents, permit approvals, and the contractor procurement process. Assuming those steps proceed as expected, city leaders anticipate the bridge will reopen to the public sometime this fall.

The Arthur Bridge serves as an important pedestrian connection in the area surrounding Rotary Park, making its closure noticeable for residents who rely on it for recreation and local travel. While the bridge remains inaccessible, city officials emphasize that the temporary shutdown was necessary to protect public safety while engineers completed their review.
Officials also thanked residents for their patience throughout the process and indicated that additional information will be shared as the project advances through the next phases.
For now, the focus remains on completing the engineering plans and moving repairs forward so the bridge can safely welcome pedestrians back later this year.
