Hollywood City Commission hosts Commission in the Community forum bringing residents and city leaders together
Hollywood, Florida – Hollywood residents will have a chance to sit down directly with city leaders this week as the City Commission continues its “Commission in the Community” series, a program designed to bring local government closer to the neighborhoods it serves.
The forum is open to the public and encourages residents to attend, ask questions, and take part in conversations with City Commissioners and neighbors. Officials say the goal is simple—create a space where community members can speak directly with decision-makers outside of formal city hall meetings.
Each session in the series begins with a welcome from Mayor Josh Levy, setting the tone for an open and accessible discussion. After that, the event transitions into a structured format led by the District Commissioner hosting the forum, allowing residents to raise concerns and hear updates on key city projects.
This upcoming meeting will be hosted by District 5 Commissioner Kevin Biederman. The focus will include updates on several city initiatives, with a particular emphasis on infrastructure work such as the ongoing septic to sewer conversion plan. City officials say this project remains an important long-term effort aimed at improving public utilities and environmental conditions across Hollywood neighborhoods.
Before the main discussion begins, residents will also have time to meet members of the Commission during a casual meet-and-greet session. That portion of the event runs from 6 to 6:30 p.m., giving attendees an informal opportunity to connect with city leaders and other community members.
At 6:40 p.m., Public Utilities staff will deliver a brief presentation, providing updates and background information on ongoing infrastructure efforts. This will lead into the main open forum, which runs from 7 to 8 p.m., where residents can directly engage with commissioners and share feedback on city services, projects, and community needs.
Organizers say the format is designed to balance information sharing with open dialogue, ensuring residents are both informed and heard. The goal is to create a more interactive approach to local government, where conversations happen face-to-face rather than only through reports or public notices.
Adding a local flavor to the event, this session will also feature a “Taste of the West Side” theme. Food from local restaurants will be available, highlighting the diversity and culture of Hollywood’s west side neighborhoods. City officials say the addition is meant to support local businesses while also creating a welcoming environment for residents attending the forum.
The combination of civic discussion and community culture has become a key part of the “Commission in the Community” series, which rotates across different parts of the city to ensure residents from all districts have access to leadership.
Officials encourage residents of all ages to attend, whether they are looking for updates on city projects or simply want to learn more about what is happening in their community.
