West Palm Beach CRA expands public safety efforts with new mobile CCTV trailers to strengthen security in Historic Northwest and Downtown districts
West Palm Beach, Florida – The West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is taking another step toward improving public safety with the introduction of four portable Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) trailers designed to help prevent crime and support law enforcement throughout key areas of the city.
The new mobile surveillance units are part of the CRA’s ongoing commitment to using modern technology to create safer neighborhoods while supporting redevelopment efforts in the Historic Northwest and Downtown districts. The program is being carried out in partnership with the City of West Palm Beach Police Department and is intended to provide additional resources for officers while improving safety conditions for residents, visitors, and local businesses.
City officials said the CCTV trailers represent an important investment in combining technology with proactive policing strategies. The units will be strategically placed throughout the community based on public safety needs, although exact locations and deployment schedules will not be released ahead of time.
Mayor Keith A. James said the initiative reflects the city’s continued efforts to create a safer and more connected community.
“By combining innovative technology with proactive policing strategies, the CRA and the City of West Palm Beach are investing in tools that enhance public safety, support law enforcement efforts, and contribute to the continued revitalization of the Historic Northwest and Downtown districts,” said Mayor Keith A. James. “This initiative represents a major step forward in the City’s vision for a safer, smarter, and more vibrant community while helping deter criminal activity and improve situational awareness.”
The portable CCTV trailers are equipped with high-definition cameras that can provide important support during investigations. When necessary, the West Palm Beach Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center will be able to access information collected by the units, helping officers respond more effectively and gather additional evidence.
In addition to their camera systems, the trailers include GPS technology and public address capabilities. These features allow the units to be moved to different locations throughout the city and used as flexible public safety tools. Officials say the mobility of the trailers will allow resources to be directed where they are most needed.
West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo said the new equipment will help officers improve awareness of situations happening in the community while also serving as a visible crime prevention measure.
“Public safety is our top priority,” said West Palm Beach Chief of Police Tony Araujo. “As highly visible public security assets, the portable CCTV trailers serve as a strong crime deterrent while giving law enforcement real-time situational awareness and advanced investigative tools. We are glad to use these devices as a force multiplier, with technology extending our staff’s reach and allowing resources to be allocated more efficiently.”
The latest investment builds on several safety programs previously introduced by the CRA. Earlier this year, the agency announced additional efforts focused on reducing crime, supporting local businesses, and improving quality of life for people who live and work in the area.
Those efforts include increased safety patrols, expanded opportunities for community engagement, and a separate CCTV grant program that allows business owners to strengthen their own security systems. According to the CRA, residents and business owners have responded positively to these initiatives and have reported seeing improvements in crime deterrence and neighborhood safety.
Officials emphasized that the new CCTV trailers are not intended to replace police officers but rather to provide additional support and help law enforcement use resources more efficiently. By adding technology-based tools, the city hopes to strengthen its ability to monitor public spaces, respond to concerns, and continue supporting economic growth in the Historic Northwest and Downtown districts.
The CRA is encouraging residents, businesses, neighborhood groups, and community organizations to remain active partners in maintaining public safety. Officials reminded the public that reporting suspicious activity can help law enforcement respond quickly and prevent potential problems.
Residents are encouraged to follow the safety message, “if you see something, say something.” In emergency situations, people should call 911. For non-emergency issues, including suspicious activity, delayed accidents, or noise complaints, residents can contact the West Palm Beach Police Department’s 24/7 non-emergency dispatch line at (561) 822-1900.
The West Palm Beach CRA said the introduction of the mobile CCTV trailers is another part of its broader mission to support a safer, stronger, and more vibrant city. Through continued investments in technology, community partnerships, and redevelopment programs, officials say they are working to improve conditions for everyone who visits, works, and lives in West Palm Beach.
