Andrews Avenue asphalt improvement project postponed as Fort Lauderdale prepares for future roadway upgrades

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale has announced an update regarding planned asphalt improvement work along N. Andrews Avenue in the Flagler Village area. The resurfacing project, which was scheduled to begin during overnight hours, has been postponed. City officials said a new schedule will be provided once the work is rescheduled.

The original project was planned in partnership with FG Construction and focused on improving sections of N. Andrews Avenue near NW/NE 4th Street, NW/NE 5th Street, and NW/NE 6th Street. The work is part of the city’s continued efforts to maintain road conditions, improve transportation safety, and enhance the overall quality of local infrastructure.

When the project moves forward, construction crews will complete several important improvements, including milling and resurfacing damaged asphalt areas and applying new pavement markings. The improvements are expected to provide a smoother driving surface while creating clearer roadway markings for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians traveling through the area.

The city had originally scheduled the overnight construction work for Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23, 2026, with completion expected during the early morning hours of Friday, July 24. Officials noted that the timeline was subject to change due to weather conditions or other unexpected circumstances, which ultimately led to the postponement.

The overnight work schedule was designed to reduce disruptions during the busiest travel periods. Construction was planned to take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., when traffic volumes are typically lower. However, residents and businesses in the area were advised that some temporary impacts would occur while crews operated heavy equipment.

During construction, neighbors were expected to hear intermittent noise from machinery, construction vehicles, and backup safety alarms. Temporary lighting would also be used to provide visibility for workers and maintain safety throughout the work zone.

Traffic changes were also expected during the resurfacing process. One lane in each direction of N. Andrews Avenue between NW/NE 4th Street and NW/NE 6th Street would have been closed while crews completed the improvements. Drivers were encouraged to slow down, follow posted signs, and use caution when traveling near the construction area.

Parking restrictions were also part of the original plan. Residents and visitors were asked not to park along N. Andrews Avenue between the affected intersections during construction hours to allow crews enough space to safely complete the work.

The City of Fort Lauderdale also noted that driveway access would generally remain available. However, if active resurfacing occurred directly in front of a driveway, construction crews would coordinate with nearby property owners to minimize disruptions.

Although the project has been delayed, city officials thanked residents, businesses, and commuters for their understanding and patience. The resurfacing work is expected to improve the condition of the roadway once completed and contribute to safer and more reliable travel through the Flagler Village neighborhood.

The City will provide additional information about the new construction dates once the schedule has been finalized.
