City of Pompano Beach announces temporary waterway closure beneath McNab Road Bridge as major construction work enters critical phase

Pompano Beach, Florida – Boaters in Pompano Beach are being advised to prepare for a temporary waterway closure beneath the McNab Road Bridge as construction crews begin a major phase of the ongoing bridge replacement project. The City of Pompano Beach announced that the navigation channel under the bridge will be closed to all boat traffic for approximately 10 days beginning Wednesday, July 22.

The temporary closure is required to protect both construction workers and members of the boating community while crews perform significant demolition and reconstruction activities. During this stage of the project, heavy machinery, removal of construction materials, and structural work will take place directly above the waterway, making it unsafe for boats to pass beneath the bridge.

City officials said the closure is a necessary part of the McNab Road Streetscape and Bridge Replacement Project, which has entered a critical construction period. While officials recognize that the restriction may create temporary challenges for boaters, they emphasized that the short-term disruption will help ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently.

The McNab Road Bridge replacement is part of the voter-approved 2018 “G.O. Pompano!” Bond Program, a long-term investment initiative focused on improving infrastructure throughout the city. The project is expected to deliver several important upgrades once completed, benefiting drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and boaters who rely on the bridge and surrounding waterways.

Among the planned improvements are increased safety features, stronger and more resilient infrastructure, upgraded pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and improved navigation conditions for marine traffic. The new bridge will also provide greater vertical and horizontal clearances, allowing for improved movement beneath the structure for boats.
