Pine Crest Upper School Students impress judges at Broward County Regional Science and Engineering Fair with original research

Pine Crest, Florida – Ten dedicated students from Pine Crest Upper School recently showcased their scientific talents at the Broward County Regional Science and Engineering Fair, a respected event where young minds present their original research. These students are enrolled in the school’s rigorous three-year science research course, a program that encourages independent study and real-world problem solving.
Of the ten who competed, seven have earned the distinction of advancing to the State Science and Engineering Fair, where they will present their work on an even larger stage. Their success is not only a reflection of their intellect and perseverance but also the strong support system surrounding them at Pine Crest.
“These accomplishments reflect not only the exceptional talent and hard work of our students but also the dedication of our faculty and the support of our entire school community,” said Ms. Jennifer Gordinier, Head of the Upper School Science Research Program. “We recognize the significant academic commitments these students balance alongside their research and appreciate your flexibility and understanding.”
The Upper School science research program emphasizes independent thinking, creativity, and long-term planning. Students begin the journey in their sophomore year, dedicating themselves to a topic of interest, conducting experiments, and refining their hypotheses with the guidance of faculty mentors. By the time they reach competition season, their research is typically at a level comparable to college undergraduates.
Participation in events like the Broward County Regional Science and Engineering Fair gives students a valuable opportunity to share their findings with professional scientists, educators, and fellow student researchers. Presenting in front of judges and receiving constructive feedback is part of the process that helps them grow as both scientists and communicators.
As these seven students prepare to compete at the State Fair, the Pine Crest community is rallying behind them. Their work not only advances their personal learning goals but also contributes to a broader culture of academic excellence within the school.
