Oakland Park, Florida – The Oakland Park Art Walk (OPAW) is gearing up for another unforgettable evening on Saturday, August 16, from 6 to 9 p.m., and after a record-breaking turnout in May, this event promises to deliver even more excitement. Held in downtown Oakland Park, the event transforms Main Street (NE 12th Avenue) into an open-air gallery where the local arts scene, live performances, interactive experiences, and culinary delights come together in a vibrant celebration of creativity and community spirit.

The previous OPAW in May drew over 1,000 visitors, who filled the streets as they explored original artwork, met local artists, and soaked in the live performances that made the evening come alive. Stretching from NE 36th Street to NE 34th Court, Main Street turned into a buzzing, creative hub, filled with music, fire performers, stilt walkers, and more. The event not only showcased the talent of local artists but also provided meaningful exposure to small businesses and vendors, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

“Last May’s event proved just how special our community is,” said Tim Lonergan, Mayor of Oakland Park. “It’s an opportunity to showcase Oakland Park’s thriving arts and culinary scene, bringing people together to enjoy what makes this city unique.” Building on that success, the August Art Walk is expected to be even bigger, with a series of exciting new elements, including performances, exhibits, and delicious food and drink offerings.

One of the highlights of the upcoming event is the chance to experience “Al Fresco,” a special exhibit featuring works from May’s Spring live art competition. Oakland Park artist Carlos “Space” Diaz de Arce, who won the competition with his stunning piece “Rooted in Oakland Park,” will have his artwork on display. The event will also feature live musicians, a DJ, and interactive street performers that will keep visitors entertained throughout the evening.

In addition to the art, attendees can enjoy a variety of local culinary delights. Neighborhood favorites such as Rebel Wine Bar, Butcher’s Barrel, Black Flamingo Brewing Co., Nour Thai Kitchen, Red Sea, Bandoleros Oakland Park, and Tripping Animals Brewery will be offering delicious bites and beverages. The food and drinks will complement the creative atmosphere, making this an evening that stimulates all the senses.

The Art Walk is also a perfect opportunity to explore the small businesses in downtown Oakland Park. Guests can browse handcrafted goods, unique boutiques, and take advantage of exclusive Art Walk promotions and extended hours from participating stores. From clothing and home décor to one-of-a-kind art pieces, there’s something for everyone.

For local businesses, the Art Walk provides an opportunity to showcase their offerings to a large, engaged audience. “We encourage businesses to get involved by hosting sidewalk activations, featuring special menus, or collaborating with local artists for in-store events,” said Mayor Lonergan. Participating businesses will be promoted through the City’s website, social media, and event promotions, ensuring that they gain visibility from both locals and visitors alike. Businesses interested in participating can contact OPCRA at [email protected] or call 954-630-4390 for more details.

The Art Walk is more than just a celebration of art and food – it’s an opportunity to connect with the community and support local talent. As Mayor Lonergan pointed out, “With free parking and a walkable downtown, the Art Walk is an easy, exciting way to support local businesses, experience our vibrant community, and discover why Oakland Park is becoming a must-visit destination in Broward County.”

For those planning to attend, the event takes place on Main Street in downtown Oakland Park, between NE 36th Street and NE 34th Court. Main Street will be closed to vehicles starting at 1 p.m. on the day of the event to allow for setup, ensuring that attendees can freely explore the area without worrying about traffic. Free parking is available, with additional details on parking and a map available at www.oaklandparkfl.gov or by calling 954-630-4475.

This exciting event is the fourth installment of the Oakland Park Art Walk, which launched in November 2024. The Art Walk was created as a way to celebrate the city’s rich tapestry of art, culture, and cuisine while also supporting local businesses. With each installment, the event has grown in popularity, becoming a must-visit experience for residents and visitors alike.

The Art Walk is now a quarterly tradition, and the upcoming August event is sure to draw another large crowd, further cementing its place as a cornerstone of Oakland Park’s cultural calendar. After the August event, the next installment is scheduled for November 15, 2025, promising even more creativity, food, and entertainment.

As the event grows, it continues to highlight the importance of community involvement and the value of supporting local artists and businesses. The Art Walk is a true reflection of Oakland Park’s commitment to fostering creativity and connection, and it promises to be a night of vibrant energy, artistic expression, and shared experiences.
