Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale is set to begin improvements to the Galt North and South parking lots, located along Galt Ocean Drive at NE 36th Street and NE 35th Street. This project, slated to begin the week of August 18, 2025, will bring several upgrades to these vital public spaces, enhancing both functionality and accessibility for residents and visitors alike. The improvements are a part of the city’s ongoing efforts to create a more user-friendly and sustainable environment within Fort Lauderdale.

Contractors Services Unlimited has been tasked with carrying out the project, which will involve various upgrades aimed at improving the overall experience for those using the parking lots. The scope of the work will include milling and resurfacing the existing parking surfaces, which will create a smoother and more durable surface for vehicles. In addition to these essential improvements, the project will also focus on enhancing accessibility features, particularly the ADA ramps. This effort aims to ensure that all individuals, regardless of mobility, have safe and easy access to the area.

Other key aspects of the renovation include lighting improvements and the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. As more drivers switch to electric vehicles, the demand for EV charging stations continues to grow, and this initiative is designed to meet that need. The addition of these charging stations will allow EV owners to park and charge their vehicles with ease while promoting environmental sustainability.

The south parking lot will also see drainage improvements, addressing any potential water runoff issues and ensuring the area remains functional during inclement weather. These efforts are essential in maintaining the long-term health of the parking lots and preventing any future damage caused by water accumulation.

Construction work will take place Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with any work impacting parking spaces scheduled during off-peak evening hours to minimize disruption. The project is expected to be completed by the end of December 2025. During the construction period, there will be no traffic impact on Galt Ocean Drive, and drivers are asked to follow posted signs and drive with caution in the area. While the improvements are being made, the City of Fort Lauderdale appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation.
