Town of Davie is accepting applications from Broward County artists for the Painted Horses Public Art Project to celebrate historical cultures

Davie, Florida – Local artists now have an exciting opportunity to showcase their creativity as the Town of Davie launches its second open call for the Painted Horses Public Art Project. Applications are being accepted through October 28, 2025, giving artists a chance to design and paint unique fiberglass horse sculptures that will highlight Davie’s rich history and culture.

The project seeks six talented artists from Broward County to participate in this vibrant public art initiative. Selected artists will receive $2,000 for completing their painted horse, which will be displayed throughout Davie in parks and municipal facilities, enhancing the town’s visual landscape while celebrating its equestrian heritage.

Artists are encouraged to embrace the project’s theme, ‘Historical Cultures of Davie,’ in their designs. Suggested areas of focus include the town’s farming and fruit grove heritage, educational institutions, cowboy and rodeo culture, and the diverse local flora and fauna. Each artist is invited to submit up to three designs using the supplied template, ensuring that submissions remain original and reflect their personal artistic vision.

To maintain consistency and durability, the Town has set guidelines for acceptable materials. Only acrylic paint, artificial resin paint, or two-component paints may be used on the horse sculptures, and all paint must be UV resistant. Designs must be original, with no logos or words allowed, and the artwork must be entirely the creation of the submitting artist.

Applications and designs must be submitted through the Town’s official registration form at www.davie-fl.gov/PaintedHorsesArt. The Public Art Advisory Committee will review all submissions and recommend designs to the Town Council for final approval, selecting one design from each participating artist to bring the project to life.

This initiative is part of Davie’s ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces through art.
