Residents encouraged to shred personal documents and safely dispose of old medications this Saturday in Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines, Florida – The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) is once again helping residents protect their personal information and the environment with its upcoming Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon event. The free, community-focused initiative will take place on Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way in Pembroke Pines.

The event offers residents a convenient way to safely destroy sensitive personal documents and properly dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired medications. With identity theft and prescription drug misuse remaining ongoing public concerns, BSO officials are encouraging everyone in the community to take advantage of this opportunity to clear out old files and medicine cabinets responsibly.

Each vehicle may bring up to two boxes of documents for shredding, with box dimensions limited to 16 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 12 inches high. This restriction helps ensure that the on-site shredding process runs efficiently and fairly for all participants. Shredding will be conducted securely, with all materials properly destroyed on location.

Residents who bring in prescription medications for disposal will also receive a $5 gift card, available while supplies last. However, organizers note that needles and sharp objects will not be accepted at this event due to safety regulations.

BSO officials emphasize that programs like the Shred-A-Thon and Operation Medicine Cabinet play a vital role in preventing identity theft and reducing the chances of unused medications being misused or contaminating the environment. Proper disposal also helps keep prescription drugs out of the hands of children and pets.

Community members are encouraged to arrive early, as past events have drawn large turnouts. The process is drive-through style, making it easy for participants to remain in their vehicles while volunteers assist with unloading documents and medications.

This Saturday’s event gives Pembroke Pines residents a simple way to stay secure, stay safe, and do something positive for their community — all in just one stop.
