Global airplane manufacturer expands operations with the opening of a new $10M facility in Miramar Centre Business Park

Miramar, Florida – Global aerospace manufacturer Ontic has officially planted new roots in South Florida, opening a $10 million facility inside the Miramar Centre Business Park and strengthening the city’s growing reputation as a hub for advanced aviation work. The development brings one of the industry’s most recognizable specialists in airplane component manufacturing and repair deeper into the region, introducing a major operation designed to support airlines around the world and energize the local economy.

The new site sits at 15701 SW 29th Street, where Ontic has established a 64,000-square-foot space dedicated to maintenance, repair and overhaul services. Although the company already operates worldwide, this marks its eighth site and the first designated as a Center of Excellence for MRO activities. It represents an expansion strategy designed to bring resources closer to global operators while improving how quickly essential parts can be repaired, certified and returned to service.

City officials helped welcome the company in early November, celebrating the facility’s opening during a ribbon-cutting on Nov. 5. Local leaders, including Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance CEO Bob Swindell, Broward County District 3 Commissioner Michael Udine and Miramar Mayor M. Wayne Messam, joined Ontic executives to mark the occasion and highlight what the investment means for the region. “We are thrilled to welcome Ontic, a global aviation powerhouse, to Miramar,” Messam said. “As a proven aviation and aerospace hub, we look forward to supporting Ontic’s continued growth and success in the City of Beauty and Progress.”

Inside the new building, Ontic technicians will focus on a range of highly specialized services. According to the company, teams will perform avionics work, electro-mechanical repairs and hydraulic component maintenance—three areas where precision, certification and consistency are essential. The facility begins operations with a staff of about 150 employees, many of whom bring deep experience in aviation systems. The company has also reserved roughly 12,000 square feet for future expansions, signaling its long-term approach to growth and its confidence in the South Florida market.

Ontic leaders describe the Miramar location not simply as an additional site, but as a strategic anchor in a broader overhaul of how the company supports airlines and operators globally. “The opening of our first-ever Ontic MRO Center of Excellence marks an important first milestone in the creation of our new global MRO network, which will increase turnaround time and transparency, and transform how we support airlines and operators,” Ontic Vice President of Global MRO Operations Jack Karapetyan said in the release. With airlines under constant pressure to keep fleets in service and minimize downtime, the company aims to create a more agile, responsive system for repairing critical parts.

Regulatory approval for the new operation came recently from the Federal Aviation Administration, enabling Ontic to begin servicing components immediately. Certification from the FAA is essential for any facility working on commercial aviation systems, adding another layer of assurance for airlines that rely on timely, traceable maintenance.

Karapetyan said the company’s decision to choose Florida came after recognizing the region’s long-standing reputation in aviation services. “Florida was the natural choice for our expansion as it is already an MRO hub with ample skilled labor and a business-friendly environment, which also acts as a gateway to South American markets,” he said. “I’m excited by this investment that will build and grow our MRO operations and enable us to become a benchmark for other MRO centers in the industry.”

With the facility now open and operations ramping up, Miramar gains not only new jobs but also increased visibility among international aviation companies seeking supportive environments for high-tech work. Ontic’s arrival signals that the area remains an attractive destination for major aerospace investments, offering the workforce, infrastructure and leadership needed to sustain long-term growth.
