Broward County Public Schools prepares to send pallets of hurricane relief donations collected for communities in Jamaica

Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is preparing to ship a large shipment of donations to Jamaica, following the successful Hurricane Relief Drive held from October 31 through December 12. The drive, organized in partnership with community organizations and local schools, aims to provide essential support to those affected by Hurricane Melissa, which struck the island in October 2025.

BCPS Superintendent, district administrators, school leaders, and community partners gathered at the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center in Fort Lauderdale on December 17 to oversee the final preparations for the shipment. The relief items, collected over more than a month, include essential supplies intended to support communities in Jamaica as they recover from the devastation caused by the hurricane.

The initiative was part of BCPS’s broader “One Broward” effort, which emphasizes collaboration between schools, students, families, staff, and local organizations to address critical needs both locally and globally. BCPS partnered with a number of community organizations to ensure the success of the relief drive, including BrightStar Credit Union, the Broward County Association of Student Councils, the Broward County Council of PTAs/PTSAs, the Broward Education Foundation, the Broward Principals’ and Assistants’ Association, the Broward Teachers Union, and Food For The Poor.

The drive highlights the strength of community partnerships in times of crisis.
