Florida Department of Corrections announces new Mobile Probation Unit location in Ocala
Ocala, Florida – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) Office of Community Corrections has officially announced the opening of a new Mobile Probation Unit (MPU) at the Ocala East Probation Office, marking another step in the agency’s effort to expand access to supervision services across the region.
The new facility is expected to serve probationers in the Ocala area by improving access to reporting services and providing additional support for individuals working toward successful reintegration into the community. Officials say the goal is to reduce barriers that often make it difficult for probationers to meet supervision requirements, particularly transportation challenges and limited access to centralized offices.
FDC leaders emphasized that the new MPU is part of a broader strategy to make community corrections more efficient and more supportive while still maintaining strict public safety standards. The unit is designed to offer a more accessible environment where individuals under supervision can report, receive guidance, and connect with available resources.

“The opening of the Ocala MPU is a testament to our commitment to improving the resources available to those under our supervision,” said Assistant Deputy Secretary of Community Corrections Joe Winkler. “This new office will allow us to better serve the community, support offenders in meeting their obligations, and ensure public safety remains our top priority.”
The Ocala location is part of FDC’s Mobile Probation Unit system, which places services closer to where probationers live. By bringing supervision support into more accessible community settings, the department aims to reduce missed appointments and improve compliance with probation conditions. Officials note that easier access to services can play a key role in reducing repeat system involvement and encouraging long-term stability.
Beyond convenience, the new unit is also expected to strengthen communication between probation officers and the individuals they supervise. FDC officials say that closer contact and improved accessibility can help address issues earlier and provide more consistent monitoring, which benefits both probationers and the wider community.
According to the department, the design of the MPU focuses on practicality and efficiency. The space is intended to function as a modern, structured environment where probationers can complete required check-ins and receive support services without the added burden of long-distance travel. This setup is particularly important in areas where transportation options may be limited or inconsistent.
Officials also highlighted the importance of collaboration with local stakeholders in strengthening community corrections efforts. The new Ocala unit is expected to work in coordination with existing local services and support systems to ensure probationers have access to the tools they need for successful rehabilitation and reintegration.
“This new office represents a significant step forward in our efforts to enhance community corrections,” said Regional Director Michael Anderson. “By providing a modern, accessible facility, we are not only supporting those under supervision but also strengthening our partnerships with local stakeholders to ensure a safer and more connected community.”
FDC representatives say that Mobile Probation Units continue to play an important role in modernizing supervision practices across Florida. By expanding their presence, the department hopes to improve outcomes for individuals on probation while maintaining accountability and reinforcing public safety priorities.
