Florida Department of Agriculture launches new centralized hub to provide essential information for hurricane-affected agricultural producers

Tallahassee, Florida – The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), led by Commissioner Wilton Simpson, has unveiled a new online resource to help agricultural producers recover from the devastating impacts of hurricanes in 2023 and 2024. The newly launched website, FDACS.gov/BlockGrant, will act as the central hub for information regarding the state’s disaster block grant program, a crucial initiative that provides financial relief to farmers, ranchers, and growers who have faced significant losses.
In a statement, Commissioner Simpson emphasized the importance of this program, stating, “Florida’s agriculture industry was hit hard by back-to-back hurricane seasons, and our producers need long-term, meaningful support to recover. This website will serve as the go-to resource for Florida’s farmers, ranchers, and growers as we develop the program and ultimately launch the application process for more than $600 million in disaster relief funding.”
The program is part of Florida’s broader efforts to assist the agricultural sector, which has suffered widespread losses due to recent natural disasters. According to state estimates, the total agricultural damages from the 2023 and 2024 hurricanes amount to billions of dollars. The block grant, worth over $600 million, represents about 35% of the total agricultural damage incurred during these storms.
Florida is the first state in the country to secure an agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to implement this newly authorized disaster block grant program. This agreement allows Florida to distribute federal funds to impacted agricultural producers, aiding their recovery efforts in the wake of severe storm damage.
While the site is now live, the program is still in development. FDACS, in partnership with the USDA, is working on a federally required Work Plan that will outline key details about eligibility criteria, documentation standards, and the application process. Once completed, this plan will be submitted to the USDA for approval before the application process officially opens. The timeline for the program’s rollout includes the completion of the Work Plan, submission to the USDA, and approval before FDACS can formally announce the process through which producers can apply for funding.
In addition to the disaster block grant program, the state of Florida has also committed approximately $150 million to support its agricultural sector through FDACS’ Agricultural and Aquaculture Producers Natural Disaster Recovery Loan Program, as well as a timber recovery program. These initiatives are designed to provide immediate emergency capital to producers in need, helping them to rebuild their operations and recover as quickly as possible from the storm’s effects.
The new disaster block grant program will further support Florida’s agricultural industry, which plays a significant role in the state’s economy. From citrus growers to livestock farmers, the program will assist a wide range of producers who have been struggling to rebuild after the hurricanes. This initiative highlights the state’s commitment to addressing both short-term and long-term needs within the agriculture community, providing the resources necessary for recovery and growth.
For agricultural producers who have been affected by the storms, the new online hub offers easy access to the latest updates, eligibility details, and application procedures. Commissioner Simpson and FDACS have urged impacted producers to check the site regularly for new information as the program continues to develop.

“We understand the challenges our agricultural producers are facing,” said Simpson. “This funding will help provide relief and allow them to continue to contribute to the success of Florida’s agriculture industry. We are here to support them as they recover.”
For more information, agricultural producers can visit FDACS.gov, where they will find comprehensive details about the disaster relief programs available to them. The site will be regularly updated as new information about the block grant program and other assistance initiatives becomes available.
As the state works to support its agriculture industry, this new resource promises to streamline communication and ensure that those who need it most have the tools and information necessary to apply for aid.
