Davie announces long term SW 61st Avenue roadway reclamation project aimed at improving traffic safety and road quality
Davie, Florida – Drivers traveling through western Broward County should prepare for delays as the Town of Davie moves forward with a major roadway improvement project along SW 61st Avenue.
The Town of Davie Engineering Division has announced a road reclamation project covering SW 61st Avenue between Griffin Road and Stirling Road. Work is already being planned in phases, with completion expected by mid-May 2026, making this a long-term construction effort aimed at improving road conditions and safety.
During construction, traffic will not be fully closed, but movement will be limited. Motorists will be allowed to continue using SW 61st Avenue through a single lane, as temporary single-lane closures are introduced to allow crews to complete rehabilitation and pavement resurfacing work. A detour system will also be in place, and on-site staff will be present to help guide vehicles safely through the area.
Officials are urging drivers to stay alert when passing through the construction zone. The presence of workers, flaggers, heavy equipment, and changing traffic patterns means conditions can shift quickly. Reduced speed is strongly recommended, along with careful attention to posted signs and instructions from traffic control personnel.
Town officials emphasized that safety remains the top priority throughout the project. The roadway work is designed to improve long-term driving conditions, even though short-term disruptions are expected while construction is underway.
The project is primarily funded through the Mobility Advancement Program, also known as MAP Broward or Surtax funding. This funding source supports transportation improvements across Broward County, focusing on road maintenance, congestion relief, and infrastructure upgrades intended to support growing traffic demands.
Residents and commuters who regularly use SW 61st Avenue may need to plan extra travel time, especially during peak hours when lane restrictions could cause slower movement through the corridor.
For those seeking additional information or updates about the project, the Town has provided direct contact access. Questions can be directed to Engineering Project Manager John Doherty at 954-797-1007 or via email at [email protected].

As construction continues over the coming months, officials say communication and caution will be key. While inconvenience is expected during the work, the goal is a fully improved roadway that will serve drivers more efficiently and safely once completed in 2026.
