Weston launches new emergency notification system designed to improve public safety and communication with residents during urgent situations

Weston, Florida – The City of Weston is taking a major step forward in public safety communication with the launch of its new emergency alert platform, ALERT Weston. Designed to deliver critical updates quickly and efficiently, the system reflects a growing need for fast, reliable information in moments when every second counts.

At its core, ALERT Weston is built to keep residents and business owners informed during urgent situations. Whether it’s a boil water advisory, a missing person case, or a developing emergency that threatens public safety, the system is designed to push out alerts through multiple channels. Users can choose how they receive notifications—by phone call, text message, or email—ensuring that important updates reach them in the way that works best.

City officials emphasize that speed and clarity are essential during emergencies, and this system aims to deliver both. By partnering with AlertFlorida and Everbridge, a widely used mass notification software provider, Weston has equipped itself with tools capable of reaching large audiences almost instantly. The collaboration brings together local oversight with proven technology, creating a network that can respond as situations unfold.

The system is not just about emergencies, however. It also serves as a channel for sharing important community information, expanding its usefulness beyond crisis moments. Still, its primary focus remains clear—helping people stay safe when it matters most.

One important detail stands out for longtime residents: those who previously signed up for Weston’s older CodeRED system are not automatically enrolled. They must register again under the new platform and set their notification preferences within the Everbridge system. Without completing this step, individuals may miss direct alerts and instead rely only on updates shared through the city’s social media channels—assuming they follow them.

Accessibility has also been carefully considered. ALERT Weston is compatible with TDD and TTY devices, ensuring that deaf and hard-of-hearing users can receive notifications without barriers. In addition, the Everbridge mobile app extends the system’s reach even further, offering geographically targeted alerts to users across the country. Residents can simply search for “Alert Weston” or “Weston FL” within the app to connect.

When alerts are issued, they will appear with the City Hall phone number—954-385-2000—on caller ID, helping recipients quickly recognize the source. This detail, though small, adds a layer of trust and clarity, especially in high-pressure situations where unknown numbers might otherwise be ignored.

Privacy, too, has been addressed directly. The city assures users that all contact information remains confidential. Personal data provided during registration is exempt from public record requests and will not be shared or sold to third parties. In an age where data security is a growing concern, this promise may encourage more residents to sign up without hesitation.

Ultimately, ALERT Weston represents more than just a technological upgrade. It is a shift toward more proactive, inclusive communication—one that acknowledges both the unpredictability of emergencies and the importance of staying connected. For a city focused on safety and preparedness, the message is clear: staying informed is no longer optional, and now, it is easier than ever.
