Six men charged in major South Florida drug bust involving classic cars, hidden compartments, and crack cocaine distribution network across Broward County

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – What investigators describe as a long-running drug trafficking and money laundering network operating across Broward County and wider South Florida has been dismantled, leading to serious charges against six men now facing the possibility of decades in prison.

Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the case, identifying the defendants as Isaac Lakeith Bruton, Wayne Morgan Brutton Jr., Wayne Morgan Brutton Sr., Omar Dwayne Cooper, Rene Danger Jr., and Cleon Fabian Reid. Authorities say the group was involved in a coordinated operation that moved illegal narcotics through multiple distribution points while trying to keep their activities out of sight.

According to investigators, the operation dealt in large quantities of drugs, including kilograms of cocaine, pounds of marijuana, and prescription pills. Officials say the group did not stop at simple distribution. Instead, they allegedly took powdered cocaine and converted it into crack cocaine near their selling locations, a method that allowed faster street-level distribution.

To avoid detection, investigators say the group used hidden compartments inside vehicles to transport drugs between locations. These concealment methods, often built into cars in sophisticated ways, were designed to make law enforcement searches more difficult during traffic stops and surveillance operations.

But the drug trafficking, officials say, was only one part of the operation. Prosecutors allege that two of the men, Bruton and Cooper, were also responsible for laundering the proceeds of the illegal sales. The cash, according to the investigation, was funneled into seemingly legitimate investments, including real estate purchases, everyday vehicles, jewelry, and business ventures.

Authorities also say the pair invested in restoring classic cars, a detail investigators described as another layer of the laundering scheme. By circulating illicit money through restoration projects and other purchases, officials believe the group attempted to disguise the origin of their profits.

“This joint investigation dismantled a criminal enterprise that pumped dangerous drugs into Florida communities,” Uthmeier said. “Through the tireless work of the Office of Statewide Prosecution and our great law enforcement partners, we are taking on more criminal prosecutions than ever before.”

The investigation was led by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Organized Crime Unit along with the Office of Statewide Prosecution. The FBI and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office also assisted, providing additional support during surveillance and evidence gathering efforts.

All six defendants are now charged with first-degree felony racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering. Bruton and Cooper face additional third-degree felony charges for money laundering tied to the alleged financial activity uncovered during the investigation.

If convicted, the potential penalties are severe. Bruton and Cooper each face up to 75 years in the Florida Department of Corrections, while the remaining four defendants—Brutton Jr., Brutton Sr., Danger Jr., and Reid—each face up to 60 years in prison.

Assistant Statewide Prosecutors Jillian Tate and Nicholas Kaleel are assigned to prosecute the case as it moves forward in the court system. Authorities say the investigation remains a key example of ongoing efforts to target organized drug trafficking networks operating in South Florida communities.
