West Palm Beach, Florida – Several major public facilities in West Palm Beach will temporarily close as the city prepares for Independence Day observances and one of its most popular summer traditions. Officials confirmed that City Hall, the Mandel Public Library, and the Grassy Waters Preserve Nature Center will all be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, 2026, as the city marks the holiday weekend.

The closures are part of the city’s standard holiday schedule, giving employees time off while also aligning with reduced public service demand during the Independence Day period. Despite the temporary shutdown of key buildings, officials emphasized that essential services will continue operating normally for residents.

One of the most important services—trash and garbage collection—will not be disrupted. The city confirmed that regular pickup schedules will continue as usual throughout the holiday period, ensuring that neighborhoods remain serviced without interruption even as administrative offices pause operations.

Facility reopenings will occur in stages following the holiday weekend. The Grassy Waters Preserve Nature Center is set to welcome visitors again at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, while the Mandel Public Library will reopen later that same day at 1 p.m. City Hall will resume operations slightly later, reopening at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 6.

City officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead for any administrative needs, library visits, or recreational plans that may be affected by the temporary closures. The timing aligns with the broader Independence Day holiday period, when many residents travel or participate in local events.

At the same time, the city is preparing for one of its signature summer celebrations, the annual 4th on Flagler event. Scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, the celebration will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is expected to draw large crowds to the downtown waterfront area.

The event has become a staple of West Palm Beach’s holiday calendar, offering a mix of entertainment and community-focused activities along the Intracoastal Waterway. This year’s program will include live music performances, family-friendly attractions, and a wide selection of food and beverage vendors designed to accommodate attendees of all ages.

A major highlight of the evening will be The Florida Crystals high energy laser show, which will be synchronized with an 18-minute fireworks display lighting up the waterfront sky. The combination of pyrotechnics and laser effects has become one of the most anticipated parts of the celebration, drawing both residents and visitors each year.

In addition to in-person festivities, the city confirmed that the event will also reach a wider audience through a televised broadcast. The show will air live from 9 to 9:30 p.m. on WPBF 25, under the program titled WPBF 25 Presents 4th on Flagler: Celebrating America250. The broadcast is expected to bring the celebration into homes across the region, expanding its reach beyond those attending in person.

Officials say the annual event reflects both community pride and the spirit of Independence Day, blending entertainment with a shared civic experience along one of the city’s most recognizable waterfront areas.

While the holiday closures may temporarily pause daily government services, city leaders emphasize that West Palm Beach remains active and welcoming throughout the weekend. Residents are encouraged to participate in the celebrations, enjoy the waterfront activities, and take part in what has become one of the region’s most visible Independence Day traditions.

As July 4 approaches, the city is balancing quiet administrative downtime with a vibrant public celebration, marking the holiday with both reflection and festivity along the Intracoastal Waterway.
