Miramar launches Venezuela earthquake relief effort with Global Empowerment Mission partnership
Miramar, Florida – Following the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, the City of Miramar has stepped forward with a coordinated humanitarian response, launching a community-wide relief effort in partnership with Global Empowerment Mission (GEM). The initiative aims to gather essential supplies for families and individuals affected by the disaster, as local officials emphasize the strong connection between Miramar and its Venezuelan community.
City leaders say the effort is rooted in both urgency and solidarity. With many residents in Miramar having family ties to Venezuela, the disaster has been felt personally across the city. The relief campaign is designed to move quickly, focusing on practical support that can be collected, packed, and shipped directly to affected regions.
The City of Miramar is accepting a wide range of in-kind donations, prioritizing everyday essentials that are difficult to access in disaster zones. Requested items include nonperishable food, bottled water, hygiene products, emergency supplies such as batteries and first aid kits, and baby supplies. Officials are also asking for disposable diapers for both adults and children, pet supplies, protective equipment like gloves and KN95 masks, and cleanup materials such as tarps, duct tape, industrial trash bags, and shovels.
However, organizers have also made clear what cannot be accepted. Clothing, shoes, linens, and similar items will not be collected, as GEM has specific logistics for shipment and distribution.
According to the city, this decision is meant to ensure that aid reaches impacted communities as efficiently as possible without creating unnecessary sorting delays.
GEM will handle transportation and distribution of all donated goods directly to Venezuela, coordinating with local partners on the ground. The organization is known for its rapid disaster response efforts worldwide, and city officials say the partnership will help ensure that supplies reach those in need without unnecessary delays.
To make participation easier, Miramar has established multiple drop-off locations across the city, all operating 24 hours a day. Donations will be accepted until Friday, July 31, 2026, giving residents a limited window to contribute.
The designated sites include Miramar Police Headquarters at 11765 City Hall Promenade, along with several fire stations: Fire Station 19 at 6700 Miramar Parkway, Fire Station 70 at 9001 Miramar Parkway, Fire Station 107 at 11811 Miramar Parkway, Fire Station 84 at 14801 SW 27th Street, and Fire Station 100 at 2800 SW 184th Avenue.
City officials are encouraging residents to participate at any time of day, noting that the 24/7 access is intended to make donations as simple and flexible as possible for working families and individuals with different schedules.
As relief efforts continue, the City of Miramar is urging the community to respond generously. Even small contributions, officials say, can add up quickly when coordinated across a large population. The focus remains on speed and necessity—getting food, water, and critical supplies into the hands of earthquake survivors as soon as possible.
While the earthquakes have caused widespread disruption in Venezuela, Miramar’s initiative reflects a broader effort to translate community ties into meaningful action. Through organized collection points and a trusted distribution partner, city leaders hope to turn local generosity into tangible support for those facing urgent recovery needs abroad.
